Theme: Of A Certain Age: Stories about Getting Older
Aging is inevitable, but it’s also full of surprises. What does it really mean to get older? We’ve asked our storytellers to reflect on this journey. Whether they’re navigating the unpredictability of their 30s, embracing the freedom of their 50s, or finding peace in their 80s, each story offers a unique window into the adventure of aging. Some may recount tales of unforgettable firsts or lessons from their ever-changing bodies. Others might share the joy of discovering new passions or the hilarity of grappling with technology. From the thrill of breaking societal expectations to the simple pleasures of daily life, expect stories that are insightful, candid, and relatable. Whatever the age, each storyteller brings a perspective that reminds us there’s always more to learn and more life to live.
Team 20s - Lauren Di Lorenzo’s quest for self discovery began at 22 as she looked around and longed for more. Lauren spent many years in isolation, meditation, travel, and study. Some call this a quarter life crisis, she called it an ‘eat pray love journey’ as Lauren travelled to Italy at 22, India at 23, and predicts the love sequel (Bali) will premiere in her 30s. Her 20s were a wild ride of truly wanting to know who she is at a deeper level, coupled with the false notion of needing ‘figure it out’. Lauren shares her story for anyone in their 20s who can find comfort in her human. She shares it for anyone, at any age, who needs to hear that life is not meant to be figured out, or solved, or settled. Maybe it is just a beautiful, messy, perfect story to be told.
Team 30s - Sierra Lefave is a commercial photographer turned entrepreneur. She’s worked as a journalist for a Metrolink newspaper, planned large scale corporate events for a catering company and as the founder of House of Seven Studio she has built an organization that empowers employees to hone their craft, think big and pay it forward. Having assisted a number of talented photographers, Sierra has a deep respect for traditional mentorship and helps to guide others in building their own unique career paths. Along the journey, Sierra reinvested in personal goals by returning to university—something she always said she would do, if only for the piece of paper. Through public speaking, hosting events and teaching, she amplifies marginalized voices by using storytelling to bridge gaps in understanding and opportunity. Proudly disabled and half Chippewa, she always listens when in circle but never hesitates to go to bat for those who need support outside of community. As she likes to say, “I might be disabled, but my attitude certainly isn’t”. Known for her sharp wit and fearless approach to advocacy, Sierra is redefining what it means to be an entrepreneur and dedicated community leader. Whether combating outdated stereotypes, navigating bureaucracy and barriers, working with youth, or curating events, Sierra always makes time for others to share their ‘crazy’ ideas, and receive support when navigating difficult experiences.
Team 40s - Richa Singh is a Social-Organizational Psychologist, specializing in Change Management (Columbia University) and Human Capital advisor, she brings diverse and global experience to drive transformation across the Public sector, Fortune 500 Private entities, and international development organizations. Richa has worked closely with CXO level leaders to design evidence-led, people-centered solutions that enable sustainable change. Additionally, as an ILO-certified Gender Auditor, she am uniquely placed to drive inclusive transformation that unlocks broader organizational potential. LinkedIn
Team 50s - Raj Dosanjh Born in England to Indian parents, Raj moved to Canada as a teen. After university, she spent over 10 years in corporate sales, hustling in tech and creative. It was great experience, but in 2012, during a period of major self-reflection, she did a 180 in all aspects of her life. So, she took her undeniable love for dogs, paired it with her business background, and started Pooped Pooches Inc. She hasn’t looked back since (except to dodge poop). A runner and traveler, she once ran in every Canadian province just for fun. When not wrangling dogs, she’s stage right at a concert, belting out lyrics with her wild gal pals—off-key but fully committed.
Team 60s - Kim Sunderland is a peer support consultant, workshop facilitator, and self-help author. She has had several career roles; co-owner of a systems integration business; a college educator; and a mental health consultant, but the most rewarding was her work with wise and dedicated peer supporters from across Canada as co-author of the Peer Support Guidelines (published by the Mental Health Commission of Canada). Kim’s recent book, It’s All Gonna Be Okay – From Mad & Sad To Calm & Confident uses a light-hearted approach and personal stories to offer hope, insight, and accessible strategies to change your mindset and build emotional resilience.
